Rest in Peace Jack Layton

Canada has lost a good man.  Jack Layton was dedicated to making our country a better place.  I am proud to say I voted for him in our last election.  He made it as the official opposition in Parliament.  Early this week, Jack Layton -The leader of the NDP (New Democratic Party)- died of cancer.  It was to be expected, but it still came as a shock to most.  He had started to look a little worse for wear at the beginning of the month, people were starting to wonder if he was going to make it.  Sadly, he didn't.  He had written a letter to Canadians that touched the hearts of people who supported all of the parties.  He had such a beautiful spirit about him.  Always so optimistic, always wanting to change Canada for the better.

Dear Friends,

Tens of thousands of Canadians have written to me in recent weeks to wish me well. I want to thank each and every one of you for your thoughtful, inspiring and often beautiful notes, cards and gifts. Your spirit and love have lit up my home, my spirit, and my determination.

This event has hit close to home.  Though, Nan is still alive, I worry that she won't be here much longer.  I haven't actually known anyone that has had cancer.  I knew that my uncle Gerard did when he was four.  He had Leukemia and died at 4 years old.  I think that my Grandfather on my Mum's side had cancer of some sort when he was dying from something else.

I am sad to see that Jack has died, but I also feel relief, relief that he is no longer suffering.

Oh my god, I can't stop crying.

Jack, you know that you have done so much for our country.  Thank you.  May you rest in peace.
